User Reviews

Bookly helps users build a reading habit with motivation, robust tracking of reading time, pages, and stats, plus organized libraries with TBRs and goals. However, several frequent issues appear across reviews: a required or heavily promoted subscription for full features; a frustrating input flow for adding reading sessions and time, with occasional miscounts; inconsistent or inaccurate stats and status updates that require manual fixes; device syncing problems that prevent seamless cross-device tracking; and persistent upgrade prompts. Overall, it’s powerful for dedicated readers but its cost and reliability issues hold it back for some users.
Pros
  • Helps build a reading habit and stay motivated through goals and streaks.
  • Offers robust tracking of reading time, pages, and overall statistics.
  • Provides strong library organization with a digital bookshelf, TBRs, and a wishlist.
  • Includes goals and progress views (monthly/yearly) to monitor reading activity.
Cons
  • Requires a subscription for full features, and many users feel the price is high.
  • Input flow for adding reading sessions and time is frustrating or awkward.
  • Stats and progress can be inaccurate or inconsistent, requiring manual corrections.
  • Cross-device syncing is unreliable or doesn't work well (iPad vs iPhone).
  • Frequent upgrade prompts annoy users.

Bookly is a great tool to use for building a better reading habit. Even with the free version you have the ability to join read-a-thon’s.

I like that it tracks what you read and the stats but it’s wonky on “reading sessions” and any type of update you make to books you’re currently reading. I’m constantly having to correct previously read books because it thinks I’m still reading them even though I’ve finished. It’s very frustrating.
