Slatable - Self Tape Yourself

Now with AI Voice changer

Features & Capabilities

Since 2016, Slatable has helped actors create self-tape auditions solo—recording, editing, and sharing within one streamlined app. No reader? No problem. SceneAudio AI lets you simulate another actor's lines by changing the voice, while the built-in teleprompter reads PDFs, text, or scanned pages on camera or with a beam-splitter setup.

Created with industry pros, Slatable sets the standard for professional self-tapes. Premium features include line-by-line SceneAudio, audition management, notes, detailed search, portrait mode, Bluetooth control, and tools for title cards, multiple takes, photo-to-video, and Mac screen mirroring.

User Reviews

Slatable is valued for its teleprompter and all-in-one self-tape workflow, plus natural-sounding AI voices and strong support, which together help actors perform self-tapes without a reader and save time. However, recurring issues across reviews include bugs and crashes, audio problems, performance slowdowns after updates/subscription changes, heavy premium gating, export/share limitations, and screen-mirroring restrictions, which hinder reliability and workflow. Overall, it’s promising and feature-rich but not consistently dependable yet.
Pros
  • Teleprompter and all-in-one self-tape workflow is game-changing, consolidating recording, prompts, and reader features in one app.
  • Natural-sounding AI reader voices with a variety of options, aiding auditions when a reader isn’t available.
  • Saves time and reduces stress for self-tapes, making the process feel more manageable.
  • Strong, responsive customer support (quick responses; CEO/student interactions noted) that helps resolve issues.
  • Easy saving/exporting to phone or computer for reviewing and sharing auditions.
Cons
  • Frequent bugs, crashes, and stability issues (e.g., black screens, takes not recording) that ruin sessions.
  • Audio problems during recording or playback (muted audio, muffled sound, distortions) that undermine takes.
  • Premi um subscription gating core features and perceived price increases/heavy monetization.
  • Exporting/sharing limitations and take management problems (can't save individual takes; disabled share/export; file format issues).
  • Screen mirroring/HDMI to external monitors blocked or severely restricted, disrupting workflow.

Please fix the bugs. The black screen bug and muted audio playing while recording an insanely frustrating and make it IMPOSSIBLE to film. Haven’t seen a legitimate update to this app in so long. Feels like an AI cash grab app half the time. I might just go make my own.

This app is by far the best in contrast to its competition, but it’s far from perfect. 1. I should be able to film with the camera on either the left or the right side, currently it’s only the left side. 2. All too often either audio doesn’t convert or muted audio is not actually muted when recording. 3. Several times when recording the App will crash and not record at all. 4. I wish there was a way where you could have multiple voices in the same audition rather than just one.

*** Edit: After reaching out to their customer support, the CEO contacted me and resolved the issues. He was very helpful, kind, and understanding. Original post: The voice changer (almost) NEVER WORKS. It feels like I’ve spent hours and hours trying to convert the audio to one of the female voices to read the other lines (of a female character) and it either uses a male voice or it just emits loud clanging noises. It is a disaster.
