Features & Capabilities

One Clue Crossword reimagines crosswords as picture puzzles. Each puzzle presents a single image from which every word can be deduced. It’s easy to learn, but with 1000+ puzzles (including numerous Bonus puzzles) and 58 chapters, there’s plenty to explore. The fresh Mix-Up mode and end-of-chapter Guardian Puzzles test your word skills, while hundreds of photos—from people to places and animals—offer visual variety. Instant hints help you reveal the next letter or remove unused letters as you progress.

The game is free to play with optional paid items to unlock puzzles faster; you can disable in-app purchases in your device settings if you prefer. For help, use the in-game Help option or contact support at support@puzzling.com.

User Reviews

Users praise the game for its challenging, engaging puzzles and daily content, describing it as addictive and mentally stimulating. However, repeated complaints center on ad bombardment and reward failures, plus intrusive Safari redirects that interrupt play. Several reviews report crashes or the app stopping unexpectedly, and others note a slow pace of new puzzles or updates. Together, these issues often overshadow the positive puzzle experience, suggesting the app would benefit from reducing ad friction, fixing redirect bugs, improving stability, and delivering more timely new content.
Pros
  • Challenging, mentally engaging puzzles that force you to think and focus.
  • Addictive and rewarding, with daily puzzles that players look forward to.
  • Fun and fast-paced with a refreshing word/photo crossword concept.
  • Appeals to a wide range of players and ages; accessible and satisfying.
  • The puzzle setup encourages learning and thinking outside the box.
Cons
  • Excessive ads that disrupt gameplay and sometimes fail to deliver promised rewards.
  • Intrusive redirects to Safari/web pages that interrupt solving and feel invasive.
  • Occasional crashes or the game stopping unexpectedly.
  • Slow or infrequent updates and a lack of new puzzles/content.
  • Some bugs related to updates or ads impacting the user experience.
Recent reviews
All these years, I’ve been playing this app daily. But because I have already played all the levels (and even started it all over on a new phone), I am waiting for the new update. I know everyone plays at their own speed. I play by working on all of the words - except one clue on each game - on a level, when I have time to play the game. Then, each day, I play the daily game (which I can still play each day even if it isn’t updated, for which I am grateful), collect the award and gain 15 coins. I also complete one of the games in the current level, which only has one answer remaining … and collect the extra reward. Then I collect the extra ad gems that offer about 90 coins a day - which I don’t need, because I know the answers, but collect the gems anyway. The weird thing is even though I don’t need the gems, I get really annoyed if I forget a day, and the daily game goes back to day one that earns 2 purple coins instead of 10. Years ago I would backdate my phone five days, play the game, get my reward, backdate the phone 4 days, play the game, etc. But I think it messed up my phone so I don’t do that any more. Why am I hoarding game gems when they are meaningless to me?Go figure. I’ve played this game so often that I don’t need clues. I still love the game as much or more than I did the first day I played it. I’m still waiting for the update so I can take it further on the older phone. Because I play the game daily as described above, I am still two levels shy of gaining the Mix-Up games on my newer phone, and I have one sticker left to find in the collection. I’m looking for a squirrel. I imagine that I will probably begin the game again on another phone. Thank you for all the hard work you put into this app. You make it very exciting to play. If I had one suggestion to make, it would be to allow us to replay the game all over again by resetting the game, after we have completed all of the levels. But beginning on a new iPhone works well, also.

I love this game but it has stopped working for me. I have just finished chapter 76. Is this the end?
