HCAD’s Information and Exemption app lets residential property owners access key Harris County Appraisal District (HCAD) information directly from their browser. It provides contact numbers and office addresses, and ensures property records match the name and address on the driver’s license. Note that it may take up to 90 days for HCAD to be notified of recent sales.

Through this extension, owners can submit a residence homestead exemption by providing images of the front and back of their driver's license, look up their iFile number by scanning the license, and report property damage caused by natural disasters. It also enables status tracking for submitted applications.

Seriously it’s 2026 - and in the age of AI HCAD can’t have a decent camera for their app? It’s impossible to scan the back of your license and get your I file number, and there’s no tap to focus the camera. This is a basic iPhone function. Do better
