Overview

Features & Capabilities

Sidefari is a simple Safari companion browser that embeds a mini Safari experience via the Safari View Controller, including content blockers and privacy-friendly features for convenient in-app browsing.

On iOS 10.2 and newer, use the Open Modally in Safari extension to bring a Safari-based window into other apps that share URLs. On iPad with iOS 9, Sidefari can appear as a side-by-side browser via multitasking, enabling two websites on one screen. Compatible iPads include iPad Air 2, iPad mini 4, and iPad Pro or newer. Please refer to the 'How to set up the extension' inside the app to enable Sidefari.

User Reviews

Sidefari is valued for turning iPad into a two-pane browsing aid by providing a second window while still using Safari View Controller. Users cite it as a useful bridge for apps without built-in browsers, and praise ad-blocking/privacy options and fast, direct browsing. However, many reviews report instability—crashes, freezes, and occasional system crashes—and note ongoing compatibility issues as iOS evolves (including references to iOS 9/10). Some users find the app limited or difficult to learn, with inconsistent mobile performance. Overall, it’s a niche, useful multitasking tool when it works, but not yet dependable or mature.
Pros
  • Second split-view window on iPad using Safari View Controller, enabling two panels side-by-side.
  • Bridges apps that don’t have a built-in browser or SVC support.
  • Ad blockers and privacy features can be used while browsing through Sidefari.
  • Fast, direct browsing without plugins or trackers.
  • Useful multitasking support and quick access via the split-window panel.
Cons
  • Frequent crashes, freezes, and overall instability.
  • Compatibility issues and obsolescence as iOS versions evolve (e.g., iOS 9/10 concerns).
  • Not fully functional on mobile / limited usefulness as a general browser.
  • Perceived limited features or beta-quality feel.
