User Reviews

Clean Text is a powerful, easy-to-use tool for cleaning and transforming text, offering case changes, formatting removal, regex, and quick find/replace that saves time across devices. Users love its breadth of features and stability, with strong customer support. However, licensing changes have sparked broad frustration: legacy one-time purchases are gated behind a subscription, premium access appears expensive, and restore-purchase issues persist across updates. Some users cite a lack of release-note transparency when changes were rolled out and a request for a downgrade path. Overall, the core tool is highly valued but licensing remains a major concern.
Pros
  • Powerful text cleaning and transformation features (case changes, removing formatting, regex search/replace, and format conversions).
  • Saves time and simplifies text workflows across apps and devices.
  • Easy-to-use interface with an unobtrusive workflow and undo capability.
  • Cross-device usefulness (iPhone/iPad/macOS) with smooth copy/paste and sharing workflows.
  • Responsive and helpful customer support.
Cons
  • Licensing change to a subscription model that locks legacy one-time purchases behind a new, expensive plan.
  • Restore purchases/licensing issues persist across updates, making it hard for past buyers to regain access.
  • Mixed signaling and transparency around changes (release notes didn’t clearly indicate the licensing shift).
  • No easy downgrade path to the previous one-time-purchase version.

I bought this app last year and used it practically every day, but when the pricing model changed, I lost access to all the features I had come to rely upon. I reached out to the dev team, and they were incredibly kind, offering me exactly the assistance I needed to restore permanent access to all the features I had when I first paid for the app. I have literally never in my life had a customer service experience this good. The only comparison I can think to make is to the ending of Grapes of Wrath by John Steinbeck, when Rose of Sharon, having just birthed a stillborn child, offers an emaciated stranger milk from her breast’s milk spigot. Being able to convert RTF into UTF-8 plaintext, remove empty lines, go from sentence case to title case and back, and much much more is the Unicode-HTML-JSON-hopper’s equivalent of being nursed back to health by a stranger’s breast during the compounding crises of mass migration, economic collapse, and ecological disaster precipitated by the Dust Bowl, mechanization of agriculture, and the corporate displacement of tenant farmers. Even if my $0.99 unlimited access to the app hadn’t been restored thanks to the help of the Christlike developers, the app is so useful and life changing that, if I had no other choice, I still would’ve paid the new $40 asking price (which I will acknowledge is an easy statement to make after-the-fact, but you’ll just have to trust me that I’m being sincere, which I am. This review is sincere — there is too much at stake for it to be anything less).

I paid for the previous version of this app and never had a problem with it. Now with this update, I’m not allowed to do anything with it anymore even though I paid unless I buy a yearly subscription or pay $40 for a lifetime subscription. There’s no way to go back to the previous version. I feel cheated. Update 28-Feb-2026: the developer sent a response saying that he is now going to take into account past purchases. However, it’s been two updates since he sent that to me and everything is still dead and locked behind an expensive subscription. Even though I had already purchased this. Update 18-Mar-2026: as of the last update, the developer restored functionality to those who had previously purchased the app. I think that was very decent of the developer to make that change. I am uncertain how that will be going forward seeing as how expensive the new subscriptions are, but for now things are back to normal. Thank you.
