Overview

Features & Capabilities

Grid# makes it easy to overlay grids on photos and illustrations. It supports five grid types—Rectangle (rows & columns), Square (rows or columns), and size-based variants. You can apply up to three grids per image, customize line color (including sampling colors from the image), and adjust line width (1–20) and transparency.

Two modes are available: Fixed Grid (unmovable) and Movable Grid (Pro) which can be moved and rotated with a two-finger gesture. Pro features enable movement, rotation, and color-sampling enhancements, making Grid# a versatile tool for design, photography, and layout planning.

User Reviews

Users praise the app for a simple, quick way to overlay grids for drawing and teaching. Key pros include easy setup, grayscale grid aids, and grid customization. Recurrent issues are missing instructions, grid failures, limited grid configurations (no square grids), and saving/exporting problems plus Pro upsells. The app remains valuable for art workflows when it works, but onboarding, reliability, and feature flexibility need improvement.
Pros
  • Simple, fast workflow: upload photo, adjust grid, and save.
  • Helpful for drawing/teaching; grayscale grid aids tracing and learning.
  • Widely used by artists for painting/drawing and suitable for art workflows.
  • Customizable grid visuals: adjust rows/columns, line width, and color.
  • No intrusive ads; pleasant user experience.
Cons
  • Lack of clear instructions/onboarding; not user-friendly.
  • Grid often not appearing or app bug (white screen / unresponsive menu).
  • Limited grid options (only 3x3, rectangular; no square grid; lack of size/dimension controls).
  • Difficulties saving/exporting gridded images; issues on new devices.
  • Frequent upsell to Pro and paywall for features.

This app immediately allowed me to put a grid over a preexisting image I had in my camera roll (there are some apps that promise grids but only work if it’s a photo you took in the app), it allowed me to adjust the number of columns and rows, the color of the grid lines, the thickness of the grid lines, it even has options for making a square grid. But the best part? It didn’t try to upsell me or trick me into their pro service. This is a simple app with a simple purpose, but it absolutely honors the promises it makes for its functionality, and it was extremely easy to use.
