User Reviews

The app is relaxing and enjoyable, especially for paying subscribers, but most content is locked behind expensive subscriptions or payments. Free content is scarce, daily/new content can be stale, and some users report data loss and account issues. Overall, a good concept but the business model and reliability concerns drive negative sentiment.
Pros
  • Relaxing and enjoyable coloring experience.
  • Some users value the premium features and use the app daily.
  • The app is described as a good, enjoyable activity even for long-term users.
Cons
  • Paywalls lock most content behind expensive subscriptions or per-drawing payments.
  • Very limited free content; frequent ads or pay-to-color requirements.
  • Daily/new content can be stale or reused rather than fresh.
  • Loss of progress: drafts, incomplete drawings, and even accounts can disappear or be disabled.
  • Perceived overpricing and aggressive billing practices (scam/rip-off impressions).

I was an enthusiastic subscriber to Recolor several years ago and even participated in one of their special projects involving illustrations from the Los Angeles Times. At that time, I felt the app offered excellent value and I happily recommended it to others. Recently, because I am spending more time at home recovering from health issues, I decided to renew my subscription. I was surprised to find that the annual cost had increased dramatically—from approximately $45 per year when I was previously subscribed to over $120 per year today. Although I was disappointed by the price increase, I chose to subscribe because I trusted that the app would have evolved and improved over the years. Unfortunately, that has not been my experience. The app appears largely unchanged from when I last used it. The same color palettes, effects, and tools remain in place, with little evidence of meaningful development or innovation. Even more disappointing, many of the coloring pages being featured now are pages I remember coloring years ago, giving the impression that older content is being recycled rather than new material being created. I don’t mind paying more for a product that continues to grow and improve. However, it is difficult to justify such a significant price increase when the user experience has remained essentially the same—or in some ways feels diminished due to the repeated content. I sincerely hope Recolor invests in updating the app, introducing new tools and effects, and providing more original artwork for its subscribers. Until then, I cannot say that the current subscription price reflects the value being offered.

I found and re-downloaded this app because it was the only coloring app i’ve ever really enjoyed. it’s like a color by number but you can chose your colors and add cool filters when you’re done with your drawing, and there is also a gallery to share your art with others and events. You can get only a few free drawings that are made by the app, with watching an ad. You can import drawings and color those by watching an add as well. This app is definitely worth it if you like coloring apps and want something more customizable. I think it is worth the subscription if you use it, but I wish there were more drawings that are already on the app that you could do, even if you had to watch an ad.

I have been subscribed to Recolor for about 10 years now and I am very hooked. Although I usually don’t color their templates, I am normally impressed with their dailies. With a variety of colors and effects to choose from it’s easy to make an import look very impressive. Although I am a paid subscriber, I know many who are happy with the free app. Fortunately, once you subscribe and continue to renew, the price stays the same.
