Features & Capabilities

DronePan 2.0 is better than ever with a new UI and functionality. A special thanks to Kilian Eisenegger for all his hard work and contributions to this project. If you have any questions about this version please join our Facebook group:

DronePan is free, open source, and makes it easy to capture panorama photos with your DJI Inspire1, Phantom 3, Phantom 4, Phantom 4 Pro, Mavic Pro, Spark and iOS Device. You can use the live FPV screen to fly to the appropriate altitude, frame your shot, and DronePan takes care of the rest. DronePan will take photos at the necessary yaw and pitch with your aircraft. The process takes less than 3 minutes to complete and you can then fly to another location to begin another panorama.

Keep your DJI drone within line of sight when using DronePan.

Update your aircraft to the latest firmware before using DronePan.

When you land your photos are ready to be stitched together with your favorite panorama stitching program. We highly recommend using PTGui or AutoPano Pro.

User Reviews

Users appreciate that DronePan is a free tool that can automate spherical panoramas across several DJI models and allows customizable shot counts. However, recurring issues dominate: crashes during capture, incomplete panoramas, and occasional loss of drone control. Many reports also call for better Mavic Pro support and other model compatibility, plus gimbal errors and some interface quirks. When it runs smoothly, it delivers reliable panoramas for Phantom and P3 series; otherwise, reliability is inconsistent. The app is valued for its core function and zero-cost access, but needs stability and broader device support.
Pros
  • Free to use and widely available for panorama creation.
  • Supports multiple DJI models (e.g., Phantom 3/4 series) and works when compatible.
  • Allows quick, automated panorama capture with configurable rows (e.g., 6–8 rows).
  • Positive results and praise when it runs well, enabling spherical panoramas without paid tools.
Cons
  • Crashes during panorama capture or causes the app to close, sometimes leading to loss of drone control.
  • Incomplete panoramas or failures to take photos or finish the sequence.
  • Limited support for newer drones (notably Mavic Pro) and frequent calls for updates.
  • Gimbal and control errors (e.g., gimbal altitude errors, 'cannot adjust gimbal').
  • UI/UX/workflow issues (settings changes with no easy way back to main screen; need to open DJI Go first in some cases).

Crashes as soon as picture taking starts.

It currently allows osmo to take pictures and videos, but immediately crashes when I try a pano from this app.

I can’t speak to any other platform, but it does not complete a sequence of photos on the mavic pro. Very disappointing.
