User Reviews

Bear - Markdown Notes is widely praised for its elegant UI, fast performance, and reliable syncing across Apple devices, along with strong Markdown support and tagging. Reviewers highlight its depth of features and distraction-free writing. Common downsides are post-update bugs (rendering, data loss, copy/paste), a tag-centric organization model with no folders, and cross-platform limitations (no Windows/web app) plus a clunky mobile editing experience.
Pros
  • Beautiful, intuitive UI/UX across Apple devices.
  • Fast, reliable performance with smooth, consistent syncing.
  • Comprehensive Markdown support with easy formatting and export options (LaTeX support).
  • Powerful tagging and organizational capabilities (easy navigation and search).
  • Feature-rich and versatile with an expanding toolkit (TOC, backlinks, todos, etc.)
Cons
  • Bugs and instability after updates, including rendering failures, data loss, and broken copy/paste.
  • Tag-based organization only; no folders or nested folders—limiting structural organization for some users.
  • No Windows app or web app; cross-platform access is limited and many users want Windows/web support.
  • Mobile editing UX is cumbersome (heavy formatting menu and keyboard toolbar) and can feel slow on iPhone.

Sure it looks "clean" at first but it automatically adds markups that show every time you try to edit a word. So if you delete part of it you end up with bunch of asterisks to delete. That's not clean. Would prefer no markups at all. And having to pull up a secondary keyboard for every formatting task gets tiresome and kills work flow. Why not a long press menu for frequent formatting functions? And can't select more than one cell in tables. Honestly would rather go back to apple notes if wasn't so slow on my older device.

I love the Bear app. It’s WAY better than Evernote and reasonably priced. Keep up the great work!
