User Reviews

Users largely praise YNAB for empowering budgeting, reducing anxiety, and improving financial outcomes through envelope-style planning, with net-worth visibility and forward planning. The app benefits from a supportive community, tutorials, and strong multi-budget capabilities with cross‑platform syncing. Common criticisms focus on UX/navigation clutter and tab issues, inconsistent bank syncing and occasional manual entry needs, and dissatisfaction with the subscription pricing. Some want investment/asset-tracking features and find the learning curve steep. Overall, highly valuable but with notable usability and pricing drawbacks.
Pros
  • Empowers budgeting and reduces financial anxiety through forward planning (digital envelope approach).
  • Clear visibility into finances, including net worth tracking and the ability to plan ahead to avoid surprises.
  • Strong community, educational resources, and responsive support.
  • Robust multi-budget support and the ability to share with family, with reliable transaction syncing across accounts.
  • Good cross-platform usability (iPhone app and web) with automatic transaction downloads across accounts.
Cons
  • Confusing UX/navigation with tabs; difficulty hiding or customizing tabs; inconsistent last-used tab behavior.
  • Bank/account syncing is unreliable or slow, with manual entry sometimes required.
  • Pricing concerns: recurring subscription charges and refunds issues.
  • Steep learning curve and complexity, with many features hard to grasp without tutorials.
  • Missing asset/investment tracking and not all accounts auto-tracked (investments/retirement).

You have to pay to use this app. I don’t know why the reviews don’t mention that. why would I want to pay for an app that’s meant to help me save money.

Honestly way better than any other budget app I’ve tried. A little bit of a learning curve but worth it in my opinion.

I used to worry about money, but now I don’t. It’s eliminated stress I didn’t even know I had, and I’ve been able to save for travel and other fun things. Highly recommend. Can’t think of much else I recommend besides YNAB.
