Review summary

XON Episode One is praised for its stunning 3D visuals, immersive Myst-like atmosphere, and clever puzzles, and is attractive as a free, ad-free introduction to a four-part series. However, reviewers repeatedly cite frustrating controls, occasional bugs, motion sickness, and a very short opening episode that leads to a paywall for later chapters. Overall it shines aesthetically and conceptually, but needs smoother controls, more content, and better pacing to justify continued purchases.
Pros
  • Stunning 3D graphics and visuals.
  • Engaging, well-designed puzzles with depth and exploration.
  • Myst/Riven-inspired atmospheric feel that is immersive.
  • Free first episode with no ads or in-app purchases.
  • Promising start to a multi-episode series with potential.
Cons
  • Controls/navigation are not intuitive and can cause motion sickness; side-arrow movement can be frustrating.
  • Bugs that block progress (elevator leaving you, getting stuck, restart required).
  • Episode 1 is very short, offering limited content before continuing to paid chapters.
  • Monetization: subsequent episodes require payment, which some players doubt is worth it.
  • Dark tunnels and low visibility can hinder navigation.

2023-04-19 Te***** In this first installment, you start the game facing an elevated platform that takes you to the exit. To activate this platform, you must perform two simple things: First, you must align six spheres to the reflectors to activate power to the huge pyramid. Second, you must turn on six switches to activate power to the elevators to reach the elevated platforms. Once the sixth switch has been turned on, you should find the master (red) switch to divert power to the elevators that take you to the elevated platforms. Along the way, you will find clues sketched along several pillars. Your great adventure awaits you! 😁 This epic game offers: ✅ - Outstanding graphics. ✅ - No ads. ✅ - No in-app purchases. ✅ - Absolutely FREE of charge. The premium games that follow offer much more depth, puzzles, secret areas and so much more. This game is a great start of the series! 😁 Please ignore the one star reviews and see for yourself. Recommended: Yes of course! 👍🏼 Puzzle perfection. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

2022-06-01 SD***** This is a great way to start an amazing four part series. All 4 chapters of XON are spectacular in their own way, and these guys are absolute masters at creating beautiful mega-puzzles that are laid out across vast landscapes. It’s such a rush to solve these incredible puzzles.

2021-02-22 da***** Would be much better if they came up with better movement controls, other than that if you need a myst type fix. It’s a good free start into the series

2020-03-28 Le***** Installed on iPad 10 it was DOA on first download. Now working, I can see where this is Myst/Riven “inspired”. However, a little instruction on how touchscreen movements are controlled would be nice. It took me a while to find how to move and pan. Not having advanced much into the game, I’m not sure with what other actions I might encounter difficulties. With that rocky start, I’ll reserve further review until played. 😏 It would seem one of the puzzles in this game is getting to move and view the environment in a predictable and dependable manner. It might certainly make the game more enjoyable. I have to down grade the rating for the high level of frustration in trying to move and look about. Lastly, the graphics don’t run with Apple airplay, but then again, that’s probably nit-picking.

2020-01-23 Ka***** I started out with the initial free game, and then saw several reviewers note that these paid versions are longer, so I decided to give it a try, as I really enjoyed the freebie immensely. Now I am already on Chapter 3 and enjoying every moment of this journey so far! I consider myself to be a “graphics snob,” so I appreciate the beautiful graphics and attention to detail in these games very much. I also love that we are forced to explore every since nook and cranny of this strange world, looking for artifacts needed for game play. I also appreciate the complexity level of the puzzles. It’s not TOO hard, but hard enough that I did have to seek out some clues on a few occasions, and each game (so far) has given me more than a day of game play. I will be recommending this game to everyone for sure, and I don’t recommend many games! This rises to the level of The Taos Principal, The Room series, and House of DaVinci. Bravo! Well done, and please make more!

2019-12-03 Id***** I love the 3D design of this game. It’s easy to control and move around. The puzzles are not that hard but make you think.
