Features & Capabilities

The PocketLab app brings together science curriculum, hands-on lessons, and data sensors for science learning. We built PocketLab for the curious explorers, educators, students, and makers to bring science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) to life like never before.

PocketLab sensors connect with a single button to your iPhone or iPad and instantly stream measurement data that you can see and record. PocketLab sensors are designed for investigating physics, biology, chemistry, Earth science, environmental science, and engineering. Using the PocketLab app, you can easily analyze your data, create graphs, and integrate your data with other software. PocketLab has the same features as lab equipment that costs thousands of dollars but is low cost and intuitive to use.

NOTE: The PocketLab app is designed to pair with a PocketLab sensor. Order your sensor at thepocketlab.com.

User Reviews

Review consensus highlights The PocketLab as a strong tool for classroom data collection: real-time data from Bluetooth sensors, easy pairing with iPads, intuitive data recording, and engaging with video-backed datasets. Users appreciate its educational value, free STEM lessons, and cross-platform use with the desktop browser. However, several reviewers flag recurring UI/UX problems: low-contrast buttons, confusing menus, and limited ability to view multiple meters at once. Despite these drawbacks, many note ongoing improvements and potential, with the product remaining a fun, hands-on way to explore science in class.
Pros
  • Real-time data collection with easy Bluetooth sensor pairing on iPad.
  • User-friendly app with straightforward data recording and video integration.
  • Free interactive STEM lessons and strong educational value.
  • Works seamlessly across devices, including the desktop browser version.
  • Has improved over time and continues to add features.
Cons
  • UI/UX readability and navigation issues: buttons often hard to see due to low contrast; menus can be confusing and disrupt other settings.
  • Limited multi-meter viewing: in multi-measurement projects, each meter is on its own screen, making it hard to compare multiple meters at once.

Very excited to get to use my phone to work with the sensor kits but never got past the loading screen. Such a shame the product looked. Very promising.

While there are some UI features that could be improved, overall the PocketLab Voyager is an awesome tool for students to explore real-time data to answer a variety of science questions. My students typically don’t have any issues connecting the Bluetooth sensors to their iPads.
