User reviews

Users generally find HTTP Directory Downloader effective for grabbing files from directory listings, appreciating how it reduces manual effort and speeds up downloading. However, multiple reviews highlight significant drawbacks: the add-on launches too many parallel downloads, forcing OS save dialogs for each file, which is tedious for large directories. It also lacks options to preselect a save folder and fails to download files without extensions. While useful, users desire improved control over download behavior and handling of edge cases for a more seamless experience.
Pros
  • Effectively downloads files from directory listings as intended.
  • Simplifies the process of grabbing multiple files, making life easier for users.
  • Can handle Nginx auto-generated directory listings reliably.
  • Reduces manual file downloading tasks, helping users complete work faster.
Cons
  • Initiates too many simultaneous downloads causing overload or inefficiency.
  • Opens the OS file browser and requires manual 'save' confirmation for every single file, which is impractical for downloading large directories.
  • Lacks ability to pre-select a local target folder, forcing users to manually move files after download.
  • Does not download files without a filename extension, skipping such files automatically.
  • Issues with URL decoding and quality-of-life features like limiting parallel downloads are missing.
Recent reviews
It definitely works for grabbing files from directories, but it initiates that many simultaneous downloads at the same time.

Just needed it for a once-off use and it did the job perfectly. The 1 star reviews are people that unfortunately cannot read.
