What is Play HLS?

"Play HLS" is a Chrome extension that empowers users to play HLS urls or m3u8 links directly in their browser. Leveraging an hls.js library from video-dev, the extension works by transmuxing MPEG-2 Transport Stream and AAC/MP3 streams into ISO BMFF (MP4) fragments. The transmuxing process can occur asynchronously with help from Web Worker (if available). Also, the extension supports HLS + fmp4 as announced during WWDC2016. Importantly, it operates directly with standard HTML<video> elements, eliminating the need for any player.
