GroupBy — Tab Grouper

By: Edwin Add-on
Tidy up a messy tab bar. GroupBy automatically gathers your open tabs from the same website into neat, color-coded groups so you can find what you need at a glance.

Features & Capabilities

If you're like most people, you've got dozens of tabs open and no idea where anything is. GroupBy brings order to the chaos by collecting tabs from the same website into tidy little groups — each with its own label and color.

Open ten GitHub pages and five news articles, and GroupBy pulls them into a "github.com" group and a news group, side by side. No more scanning a wall of tiny tab titles.

  • One click to organize. Click the GroupBy button and watch your tabs snap into labeled groups instantly.
  • Smart grouping, your way. Group tabs by website (so docs.github.com and github.com land together), or get fuzzier and group by similar titles, addresses, or website names — handy when you're researching a topic across different sites.
  • Color-coded. Every group gets its own consistent color, so you can spot "the blue one" at a glance.
  • Tidy inside, too. Optionally sort the tabs within each group so the most similar ones sit next to each other.
  • Works the way you want. Organize on demand with a click, or switch on automatic grouping so new tabs slot into the right group as you browse.
  • Keep pinned tabs where they are (optional).
  • List websites or pages you never want grouped.
  • Ungroup everything in one click to start fresh.
  • Choose a single color for all groups, or let GroupBy pick a stable color per website.

GroupBy uses Firefox's own tab-group feature — not a clever workaround — so groups behave exactly the way Firefox intends, including collapsing a group to hide tabs you don't need right now.

GroupBy collects no data. Everything happens locally in your browser. It does not read page contents, track you, or talk to any server.

👉 Tip: After installing, click the GroupBy icon in your toolbar to organize your tabs. To fine-tune the behavior, open the options page from the same menu.
