Sift Firefox

Sift

By: zzalyf Add-on
Hide the parts of social media designed to keep you scrolling: algorithmic feeds, Shorts and Reels, recommendations, trending panels. Keep search, subscriptions and the people you follow. Block a site outright or set a daily time limit.

Features & Capabilities

Social sites are built to keep you scrolling. Sift removes the parts that do the pulling and leaves the parts you came for.

Hide the algorithmic "For You" feed but keep the people you follow. Hide Shorts, Reels and TikToks. Hide recommendations, trending panels and "who to follow" — while search keeps working.

Control each site on its own

  • Turn Sift off on one site without touching the others
  • Pause for 10 minutes when you need to
  • Block a site outright, behind a screen with a 15-minute escape
  • Set a daily time limit, from 5 minutes to 2 hours
  • Force dark mode on sites that don't offer one
On YouTube you can also
  • Remove thumbnails, leaving titles and channel names
  • Hide comments
  • Hide community posts, live streams, Mixes and Playables in the feed
  • Hide the recommendations sidebar and end-screen cards
Supported sites

YouTube and YouTube Music, Twitter/X, Instagram, TikTok, Reddit (new and old), LinkedIn, Facebook, Bluesky, Pinterest, Substack, Twitch.

Mobile layouts included, and Sift runs on Firefox for Android.

Your settings stay yours

Sift collects nothing. No analytics, no tracking, no remote code. Settings live in your browser and follow your Firefox account if you use Sync.

Every option is a toggle: start with the defaults and turn back on whatever you miss.

Is Sift Safe?

Risk impact
Risk impact measures the level of extra permissions an extension has access to. A low risk impact extension cannot do much harms, whereas a high risk impact extension can do a lot of damage like stealing your password, bypassing your security settings, and accessing your personal data. High risk impact extensions are not necessarily malicious. However, if they do turn malicious, they can be very harmful.

Sift requires a lot of sensitive permissions. Exercise caution before installing.

Risk likelihood
Risk likelihood measures the probability that a Firefox add-on may turn malicious. This is determined by the publisher and the Firefox add-on reputation on Firefox Add-ons Store, the amount of time the Firefox add-on has been around, and other signals about the Firefox add-on. Our algorithms are not perfect, and are subject to change as we discover new ways to detect malicious extensions. We recommend that you always exercise caution when installing a Firefox add-on.

Sift is recently added, and hasn't been around long enough for us to gather enough data to accurately assess its risk level.
