User reviews

The Media Bias Fact Check Chrome extension is widely regarded as a trustworthy and valuable tool for quickly assessing the ideological bias and factual reporting standards of news sources. Users appreciate its ease of use and reliability, making it a key resource for informed news consumption and fact-checking. However, recurring technical stability issues and concerns about perceived left-leaning bias are noted. Some wish for more granular features and better compatibility on various platforms. Overall, it remains highly recommended despite its imperfections.
Pros
  • Helps identify ideological bias of news sources quickly and easily.
  • Trusted and reliable source for media bias and factuality ratings by many users, including professionals.
  • User-friendly and intuitive interface with convenient toolbar icon and direct links to source details.
  • Useful for fact-checking and avoiding highly biased or misinformation-prone news sites.
  • Perceived as an essential tool for understanding media bias and promoting informed news consumption.
Cons
  • Extension sometimes fails technically, such as icons disappearing or showing corrupted extension errors requiring repairs.
  • Some users perceive a left-leaning bias in the ratings, particularly in labeling certain outlets (e.g., Fox News) as questionable or fake news rather than simply as right-wing.
  • Does not work consistently on some browsers or platforms (e.g., Facebook, Firefox, Chromium) as noted by some users.
  • Limited to rating the overall website and not individual articles, which some users wish were more detailed.
  • Lacks some desired features noted by users, such as showing social media share bar or detailed explanation of ratings within the extension.

This extension makes Media Bias/Fact Check easier to use by showing the ideological bias as the extension icon in the toolbar and providing a direct link to the page about the news source. If the site is not rated by Media Bias/Fact Check, that's also immediately apparent since the icon does not change.
