Bluetooth Scan & Alert

When open, this app will alert you when a user-specified Low Energy Bluetooth devices are in/out-of range.

This app does not automatically start when your phone starts, you'll need to start it manually when you want to monitor for your device.

The app includes a background scanning mode while scanning so you don't need to worry about your phone putting the app to sleep. This mode will automatically switch off after an hour (but will notify you about this and you can change this timeout in the settings.)

Use the Help Page in the app for specific usage instructions, but it should be pretty self explanatory by just poking around.

The main intention of this app is to alert you when something you’re waiting for arrives (that has a Low Energy Bluetooth beaconing device within it). My specific, personal uses are:

- While waiting for my luggage at the airport, I can go browse duty-free while the bags are being dumped onto the carousel and I get alerted when my bag arrives without needing to stand and watch for them.

- While waiting for my car to be delivered from valet, I can be socializing with my friends instead of being glued to the door watching for my car.

You may have other uses like alerting you when your backpack goes out of range of your phone or checking when your bags are placed on the airplane (yes, about 25% of the time I can see the beacon from my luggage in the cargo hold from my seat on the plane - a stronger beacon may make this more reliable).

You may use beacons from any Bluetooth Low Energy device to use for alerts. The app simply checks the address of the adapter so you don’t need to connect to the device or be concerned with the beacon’s type or UUID. With that being said, you can use devices that usually require a third-party app without using that app - or even use beacons from devices that don’t belong to you.

The range and frequency of beacons will vary depending on your device. I have a thermometer that will beacon only when you press a button but a speaker that beacons every 10 seconds.

The best beacon I’ve seen/used it from a company called feasycom.

You can download feasycom’s app and configure the transmit power and beacon frequency right from there. The battery is long-life but is also replaceable and it weighs very little.

I have no affiliation with feasycom, I just think they make a really great product - especially for use with this app. If you are intending on using this app for your luggage, the feasycom device is probably your best bet.
