Heidelberger Medizingeschichte

The Institute for the History and Ethics of Medicine at the University of Heidelberg invites you on an exciting journey through the history of medicine in Heidelberg. It arose from a teaching project and was implemented in collaboration between students and employees from the Institute for the History and Ethics of Medicine and the Institute for Anatomy and Cell Biology.
On the left and right of the Neckar you can expect dark and bright episodes, curious and almost forgotten things from the comprehensive and varied history of medicine in Germany's oldest university town. A suggested multi-stop tour will take you through space and time, stepping through the layers left by past and present ideas about the future of medicine, and discovering why big plans sometimes end up small, or everyday practices make a big difference. Encounter sheep on the Neuenheimer Feld, murals from the National Socialist era, cutting-edge research of the past and present, and Nobel Prize winners, concrete monsters and large green clinics, babies moving about and smoking medical staff on sunlit terraces on the right bank of the Neckar.
