EmoDTx: A Digital Mental Health Tool for Depression Research

EmoDTx is a research-based mobile application designed to support individuals diagnosed with depression by offering real-time mood tracking and personalized mental health interventions. The app is currently being evaluated in a clinical feasibility study to assess its effectiveness and usability in improving symptoms of depression.

About the Study
This app is being used in the EMOTHRIVE-1 study titled “Feasibility Study of EmoDTx, a Digital Health Application for Depression: Preliminary Effectiveness and Usability Evaluation.”
The primary aim of the study is to explore whether EmoDTx can support individuals with depression by helping to reduce depressive symptom severity over time, measured using the PHQ-9 questionnaire.

What EmoDTx Does
EmoDTx uses your smartphone camera and an embedded algorithm to analyze your facial expressions. This process helps generate a real-time emotional profile and a daily mood score. Based on that score, the app delivers targeted, evidence-based Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) micro-interventions tailored to your emotional state.

Intended Use and Audience
EmoDTx is designed for individuals experiencing depression and is intended for use as part of a structured clinical research study. The app is classified as a Class I Software as a Medical Device (SaMD) under EU Regulation 2017/745. It is not a general consumer app, but a digital health tool developed for research and clinical evaluation purposes.
