Forest Cozy Firefox

Forest Cozy

By: Wovi10 nature
A cozy, muted forest-toned theme for Firefox. Adjusts the colours to a nice calm forest like theme.

Features & Capabilities

First working version, built directly from the "Forest Cozy" terminal color palette.

Firefox property Hex Source in palette Reasoning
frame / frame_inactive #1a1f1a background Base window color, used as-is
toolbar #242a24 derived (lightened background) Needed a shade between background and brightBlack so the toolbar reads as a separate surface, not flat with the frame
toolbar_field #1a1f1a background Address bar recessed into the frame color, standard convention
toolbar_field_focus #242a24 derived Matches toolbar, so focus doesn't look like a different theme
tab_selected #2a312a derived (lightened background) Lightest of the three near-black tones, so the active tab is clearly the brightest of frame/toolbar/tab
tab_background_text #c9c9b8 white Muted for inactive tab labels, keeps focus on the active tab
tab_text #e8e6d9 foreground Full contrast for the active tab's label
tab_line #8a9a5b green Active-tab accent underline; green read as "alive/active" fit the forest theme better than red or yellow
tab_loading #8a9a5b green Matches tab_line so the loading state doesn't introduce a new color
icons #c9c9b8 white Slightly muted so icons don't compete with active text
icons_attention #c9a86a yellow Warm, attention-drawing tone for permission/update badges
popup, sidebar #1a1f1a background Consistent recessed surfaces
popup_text, sidebar_text, ntp_text, bookmark_text #e8e6d9 foreground One consistent text color across all surfaces
borders/separators (_border, _separator) #3a413a brightBlack Palette's own "next step up from background" tone — used everywhere a subtle line is needed
button_background_hover #242a24 derived Matches toolbar tone for consistency
button_background_active #3a413a brightBlack Slightly stronger than hover, for pressed state
  • Only two "derived" colors were introduced (#242a24 for toolbar surfaces, #2a312a for the selected tab). Everything else pulls directly from your palette. This keeps the theme tightly tied to "Forest Cozy" rather than drifting into arbitrary new colors.
  • Green was chosen as the single accent (tab line, tab loading) rather than spreading multiple accent colors across the UI. A theme with one consistent accent reads as more intentional than one that uses green here, yellow there, blue somewhere else.
  • No image assets (theme_frame) in this version — colors only. Keeps the theme lightweight and easy to tweak by editing hex values directly.
  • Firefox's private browsing window uses a slightly different rendering path for some properties (toolbar in particular); the current theme hasn't been visually verified in a private window.
  • Contrast between tab_background_text (#c9c9b8) and toolbar/frame should be checked against WCAG AA if accessibility matters to you — it looks fine visually but hasn't been measured.
  • No dedicated "new tab page" image or accent — currently just background/foreground colors on ntp_background/ntp_text.
