EdgeBlock: Block screen edges

By: flar2
Prevent accidental touches on phones with curved screen edges or thin bezels

Features & Capabilities

EdgeBlock is a Chrome extension designed to protect your phone's screen edges from accidental touches, especially useful for devices with curved edges, thin bezels, or infinity displays. It allows you to adjust the touch-protected areas by color, opacity, and width, customizing which edges are blocked in portrait, landscape, and fullscreen modes.

This extension offers flexible control methods including a notification tap to pause blocking, a Quick Settings tile to toggle on/off, and support for automation apps like Tasker via public intents. EdgeBlock ensures user privacy with no ads and minimal permissions, requiring only overlay permission. The free version is fully functional; an optional Pro upgrade enables automatic startup at boot.

User Reviews

EdgeBlock is praised for effectively preventing accidental touches on edge screens, especially on bezel-less or curved devices, improving user experience significantly. Users value its customization and the developer's support. However, common issues include problems with multitouch inputs where edge blocking interferes with game controls and other gestures. Some experience temporary full-screen touch blocks or inadequate precision in blocking configurations. The auto-start feature is reported as unreliable by several users. Overall, it is a useful tool with room for improvement in multitouch handling and configuration flexibility.
Pros
  • Effectively blocks accidental touches on screen edges, reducing ghost touches.
  • Customizable edge blocking width and settings to suit user preferences.
  • Helps especially on phones with curved or bezel-less screens, improving usability.
  • Developer is responsive and provides support for issues.
  • Free version is fully functional with option to upgrade to Pro for additional features.
Cons
  • Multitouch issues where blocking edges interfere with other simultaneous touches, especially in games.
  • App sometimes blocks entire screen momentarily, causing input delays or missed touches.
  • Limited precision control over blocking size and position, like inability to block partial length of an edge.
  • Auto start on boot and persistent background running features can be unreliable.
  • Edges can still be 'selectable' by touch, which affects secondary touch inputs and gaming experience.

Thanks for your response. Enabling the EdgeBlock service results in Palma getting warmer. Disabling the service or uninstalling the app makes the device work normally. Reinstalling and reenabling the service causes it to warm up again. Not much, but it's noticeable. Also, the battery discharges pretty quickly then (1% every 6 minutes, even if the device is locked and not used). EDIT: Never mind, I've switched to Tasker instead.

When an edge is touched, nothing else on screen can be touched. This is actually common in reviews Ive seen, similar edge blocking apps get the same complaint. Ive been tracking ghost touches with developer options and can confirm p1 is on the edge and p2+ are where I am actually touching. The problem would be fixed if pointers could be "swapped" but I doubt google will let you. System screen calibration is restricted on many newer phones, often with half built drivers, and edge-to-edge screens.
