FINALLY. This works perfectly. It's entirely unobtrusive down at the bottom bar of your google docs page so it's neither distracting nor hard to quickly reference. It doesn't frivolously count punctuation like several of the other word counters. The count updates in real time more or less. This was exactly what I was looking for. A++++

It does what it says. You will see a word count in the bottom bar of your google doc screen. It updates word count as soon as you add/type more words. So far, good.
