Browser Lock

By: Pragesh Add-on
Lock your browser with a password. Secure your session before any tabs open.

Features & Capabilities

Browser Lock is a sleek, privacy-focused extension that secures your Firefox browser behind a password. Whether you share a computer with family members, work in an open office, or simply want an extra layer of privacy, Browser Lock ensures that your browsing session remains completely off-limits until you authenticate.

Unlike other lock extensions, Browser Lock is designed with an airtight "Lock First" philosophy. It activates the moment Firefox starts—before any of your previous tabs are even allowed to render.

✨ Key Features 🔒 Instant Startup Lock The lock screen is the very first thing you see. It intercepts Firefox on startup, ensuring no one gets a sneak peek at your browsing history or open tabs before the password is provided.

🗂 Seamless Session Restore Your workflow is preserved. When the browser locks, it securely saves and closes all of your open tabs. Once you successfully enter your password, every single tab is instantly restored right where you left off.

🛡 Brute-Force Protection Protect yourself against guessing. If someone enters the wrong password too many times, a customizable lockout timer engages, temporarily freezing the lock screen to prevent brute-force attempts.

⚙ Highly Customizable Through a beautiful, dark-mode settings panel, you can:

  • Enable or disable the lock at any time.
  • Change your password (requires current password verification).
  • Set the exact number of allowed failed attempts (3, 5, 10, or unlimited).
  • Set the timeout duration for lockouts (from 15 seconds up to 30 minutes).
🔐 Privacy First & Secure by Design Your password is encrypted using an advanced SHA-256 hash algorithm before it is saved. It is never stored in plain text, and the extension collects absolutely zero personal data. Everything runs locally on your machine.

Note: This extension is designed to deter casual snooping and protect your privacy from physical access to your logged-in user account. For absolute enterprise-level security, we recommend using full-disk encryption and OS-level user accounts alongside this extension.

User Reviews

The option to lock access to add-ons and settings is very good and useful. However, the extension locked pinned tabs and some others, and also disconnected all my accounts upon activation, which caused major issues. Because of this, I had to uninstall it until this bug is fixed.
