Review summary

FicLab is a popular Firefox add-on for downloading and archiving fanfiction. Users praise its usefulness and the developer’s responsive support and ongoing updates. However, intermittent download errors, timeouts, and large-story stability issues affect some users. Overall, the add-on is highly valued and actively improved, making it a go-to tool for fans who want to save fics across sites.
Pros
  • Essential tool for downloading and archiving fanfiction across sites
  • Generally reliable and works well for most users
  • Proactive, helpful developer who troubleshoots quickly and releases hotfixes
  • Active development with frequent updates and fixes
  • Valuable for users who previously couldn't download from other programs
Cons
  • Occasional errors or crashes during downloads (e.g., TypeError and render failures)
  • Save/downloads can time out or hang for several minutes
  • Stability problems with very large stories (possible crashes or failures)
  • Site-specific content detection issues on some sites
  • Support responsiveness can feel inconsistent (some users get quick help, others report no replies)

2026-07-01 Ja***** This extension is great! However, recently it stopped allowing you to download whole series' from Literotica, which is actually the reason why I had sought this extension out since Calibre abruptly stopped allowing that as well. I don't know if there's a legal or technical reason why it's not allowed anymore or if both programs are just glitching about the same thing? However, I'll continue to use it as it is far more convenient than copying and pasting links into Calibre. Regardless of my frustrations with this particular issue, I do thank the creator for making and maintaining this extension, it's really great

2025-10-24 Or***** Been great so far. There is an error I'm getting for one site though. I see I new version is being worked on, so I can hardly complain. Thanks so much! TypeError: can't access property "textContent", lCat.querySelector(...) is null
