'Image Hider' is a Chrome extension that enhances user browsing by offering control over the display of images on websites. It hides all images on a webpage by default, displaying them again when the extension icon is clicked. Its function is on a per-domain basis, allowing users to change display settings for each website. The extension also provides the option to hide background images. User preferences are automatically stored using HTML5 LocalStorage. However, it's worth noting that it doesn't currently work on videos or other media.

Hide/Show preference works on a per-domain basis, meaning you can have one website hide images and another show them.
Preference is saved automatically using HTML5 LocalStorage.
Updated 12/07/2015 -- Now you can hide background images by toggling a setting (right click on the extension icon to find the setting). Note that this applies to all websites when toggled and may cause unwanted effects (ex: may hide button icons).
Updated again to fix default hide status.

This extension is very useful, but unfortunately it may no longer be supported soon. I recommend a similar plug-in "Hide Images|Videos" for everyone to try.

Great, works for YT thumbnails. Easy one-click on and off. That's all I wanted. Didn't hide images on Twitter for me though.
Edit: reduced my rating as it is indeed hides images on all sites by default and one has to "unhide" them manually which is annoying. IMO it should not hide anything by default until the extension button is explicitly clicked.
