Extended Color Management

By: Firefox
Ever wish that Firefox didn't use color management when viewing images or video? Turn it off easily with this add-on.

Features & Capabilities

Extended Color Management is a Firefox add-on designed for users who want to disable the browser's default color management on images and videos. This is especially useful for video and image creators who require exact color representation without interference from Firefox or macOS color adjustments. By enabling color pass-through with this extension, Firefox delivers images and videos to the operating system without any color modifications. The extension also injects lightweight JavaScript to help websites detect its presence securely.

Perfect for professionals and enthusiasts needing accurate color display, Extended Color Management simplifies toggling color management preferences in Firefox, ensuring your visual content looks exactly as intended.

User Reviews

Extended Color Management can improve color display for media and provide a simple status indicator, and many users find it helpful for controlling color management with on/off toggles. However, several reviews report serious stability issues, including Firefox windows turning white or flickering when color pass-through is enabled. Some users note a required browser restart and that the status light can be confusing. On certain setups, colors may appear washed out in 4K HDR content when color management is disabled. Overall, users see color benefits but reliability is inconsistent.
Pros
  • Improves colors for media, letting you see more accurate colors.
  • Features a simple green/yellow/red status indicator to show color-management state.
  • Allows you to toggle color support on and off.
  • Generally a helpful extension that many users appreciate.
Cons
  • Can cause major browser instability (white/blank screen) when color pass-through is enabled.
  • May cause flickering of tabs, videos, and UI when color pass-through is enabled.
  • May require a browser restart to apply changes or function properly.
  • The status light can be confusing to interpret.
  • In some setups, colors appear washed out in 4K HDR content when color management is off.

It looks like something has broken. Recently, when I enabled colour pass through, the Firefox window turned blank and nothing could be clicked or typed. In the end I had to overwrite my profile with an old backup in order to get Firefox working again. If the extension worked like it had done in the past, I would rate it higher

Tried using it on a M4 2025 computer but for some reason the whole browser turned white not allowing me to see anything, I then deleted and reinstalled it again to see if it was a glitch but no it turned fully white again, I do bet the extension is cool but of a now Im dropping a one star unfortunately.
