User Reviews

EV Watchdog Lite performs well with many EV models, offering detailed battery and energy data useful for optimizing driving. However, users frequently face issues with vehicle recognition, especially for certain makes and models, and require compatible OBD-II adapters to function properly. Some report app instability and poor developer support for newer vehicles. Overall, the app is praised for its functionality on supported EVs but has significant compatibility and connectivity limitations.
Pros
  • Works well with certain EV models like Kia Niro EV, Hyundai Kona EV, MG ZS EV, and Outlander PHEV.
  • Provides detailed vehicle data like battery state of charge, energy usage, and individual cell voltages.
  • Helps optimize driving style and range by showing energy consumption and regeneration.
  • Continuous improvements through updates have enhanced app functionality for supported vehicles.
  • Can connect immediately and recognize compatible vehicles efficiently.
Cons
  • Fails to recognize several EV models such as Kona EV Gen1 (Europe), Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV 2013, Kia Niro EV 2020, and MG ZS EV 2021 Indian version.
  • Requires a compatible OBD-II adapter; low-quality or cheap dongles often do not work properly.
  • App may crash or show errors frequently, especially if GPS is enabled.
  • Lack of timely support or response from developers regarding vehicle compatibility issues.
  • Updates can sometimes cause connection problems with OBD devices, requiring rolling back to earlier versions.

I don't run / have any of what the GitHub site says is needed "Required Software: Torque Pro or Engine Link or Car Scanner Pro". Perhaps I should have dobe better research or maybe I missed a warning. I have other software that sees thd bluetooth dongle. This one bizzarely expects my phone to be paired with it (it's, for other EV software), so it can't see the dongle. Perhaps its just me but I never got off first base.
