Features & Capabilities

Enhanced SMS & Caller ID is an Android app that speaks your incoming calls, text messages, emails, calendar reminders, and app notifications out loud. It lets you stay focused on the road, on your bike, or at work without looking at your phone. It works with most in-car Bluetooth systems and almost all Bluetooth headsets, so you can hear the sender and the message and keep your hands on the wheel.

You can also reply to texts and emails by speaking. The app turns your words into a reply and sends it hands-free. Its notification reader lets you choose which apps are announced and how, so you only hear what matters. It is also a helpful companion for low-vision users and anyone who prefers listening to reading. The app uses Android's Accessibility and Notification Access services only to read notifications aloud and enable voice replies, and you stay in control of which apps are announced.

Reviewers value the app’s extensive customization, hands-free caller ID and text reading, and responsive developer support. Many describe it as a long-term favorite and say it outperforms alternatives. However, some experience intermittent failures, and Bluetooth or device compatibility issues can prevent certain alerts, messages, or features from working reliably.

Reads texts and caller ID aloud for hands-free use, including through Bluetooth headsets.
Users often praise the developer’s prompt, helpful support.
Many reviewers report using the app for years and consider it better than alternatives.

Cons

Bluetooth and device compatibility can be inconsistent; some alerts or messages do not work with particular phones, vehicles, or apps.

Recent reviews

I've been using this app since June 2011. The best all-in-one app for customized status bar notifications, caller ID, SMS & RCS and calendar notifications without being overwhelmed. This gives me a lot more customization than using Google's apps & TalkBack.
