No way to understand how to use it, so technically "useless"

How do you use it? I'm looking for something like the filer in Gmail where I can automatically archive a chat without having it pop up in my list of active chats. I don't see any filter options. Just a green speech bubble in whatsapp which doesn't seem to have any drop down menus. How is whatsilent different from muting a chat?
