Edit with Emacs Firefox

Edit with Emacs

By: dakra
Allow user to edit web-page textareas with Emacs (and other editors).

Features & Capabilities

Edit with Emacs is a powerful Chrome and Firefox extension that enables users to edit web-page textareas using the full-featured Emacs editor or other supported editors. Due to browser security restrictions that prevent extensions from spawning new processes, this extension works in tandem with an "Edit Server" that handles requests to open and synchronize text with your preferred editor.

The extension includes a native Emacs Lisp version compatible with GNU Emacs and Aquamacs (MacOS), offering a seamless editing experience directly in your favorite editor while browsing. Its open architecture allows for different edit server scripts, making it adaptable to other editors that support the simple URL-based protocol. Licensed under GPL v3, this extension is ideal for developers and users who prefer Emacs for text editing tasks within web forms.

User Reviews

Relatively simple to install and use in Emacs, (of course on Firefox side it's a click or two.) I can also confirm that it works fine with Emacs-mac on Macos (for at least the last several years of emacs versions).
