Chromerly URL-shortener is a simple yet featureful Chrome extension that enables effortless URL shortening and sharing. With a simple icon and context menu options, you can easily shorten page, image, link, selection, video, or audio URLs. You can even block shortened links and redirect to an info page instead. Chromerly supports Web Intents and is an open source project.

It does what it says but isn't necessary (No offense to dev). You can do the simple shortening with a bookmarklet. Add the following link (below === ) to your bookmarks bar, & click it to shorten the link as you would with the extension icon. You WON"T be able to shorten something from the context menu using the bookmarklet. you can also type tny.im/ before http part in address bar & hit enter OR go to tny.im to shorten a url manually. tny.im also supports custom short urls. === javascript:void(window.open('https://tny.im/index.php?format=simple&action=shorturl&url='+escape(location.href)))

Shortens URLs, open source code on github - works well but Twitter blocks tweets when using this for short codes.
