e2encrypt

End-to-end encryption layered over messaging platforms you do not control.
xHeader
Modify request and response headers. No ads, no malware.

Features & Capabilities

A browser extension that encrypts and decrypts messages client side wherever you already talk: Instant messaging, email and social media. It has no idea where it's running, and doesn't need to. No extension network requests of any kind.

See Github for more info: https://github.com/Karlo-Sall/e2encrypt

Features:

  • Works everywhere already, on purpose. No per-site integration, no plugin for your chat app; paste ciphertext anywhere, it's just text.
  • No account, no server. Peers exchange public keys directly with each other; there's nothing in between to trust or breach.
  • Group chat, built on the same mechanism as a 1:1 message — you decide exactly who you write to.
  • Fingerprint verification — catch a substituted key before you trust it. Identity backup, offered once at creation, and then non-recoverable.
  • Per-site auto-decrypt, opt-in, always re-lockable with one click.
  • Zero telemetry. Nothing phones anywhere, ever

Is e2encrypt Safe?

Risk impact
Risk impact measures the level of extra permissions an extension has access to. A low risk impact extension cannot do much harms, whereas a high risk impact extension can do a lot of damage like stealing your password, bypassing your security settings, and accessing your personal data. High risk impact extensions are not necessarily malicious. However, if they do turn malicious, they can be very harmful.

e2encrypt does not require any sensitive permissions.

Risk impact analysis details
Risk likelihood
Risk likelihood measures the probability that a Firefox add-on may turn malicious. This is determined by the publisher and the Firefox add-on reputation on Firefox Add-ons Store, the amount of time the Firefox add-on has been around, and other signals about the Firefox add-on. Our algorithms are not perfect, and are subject to change as we discover new ways to detect malicious extensions. We recommend that you always exercise caution when installing a Firefox add-on.

e2encrypt is recently added, and hasn't been around long enough for us to gather enough data to accurately assess its risk level.
