DocsAfterDark relieves eye strain by bringing a modern dark mode and a vibrant light mode to Google Docs. You can tailor the document appearance with a configurable background color, choose from colorful, grayscale, or black invert rendering, and fine-tune accent colors using the settings popup. A true-black “midnight” variant is also available for deeper contrast.

Control is global or per document, accessible from the extension icon in the toolbar. A bottom-left toggle lets you temporarily disable the extension on a page. The project is open source on GitHub, with donations via Buy Me a Coffee, and notes that it currently does not support other Google Workspace apps.
