Features & Capabilities

The D&D Spellbook 5e Chrome extension is a lightweight and ad-free tool designed to help you efficiently manage your Dungeons & Dragons 5th edition spellbooks. It supports multiple characters, allowing you to maintain separate lists of favorite, known, and prepared spells without requiring a network connection.

User Reviews

Users largely praise the app for a comprehensive, up-to-date spell database with strong search features and offline access, plus multi-character and homebrew support with no ads. Recurrent drawbacks include unreliable filters, missing cantrips, lack of spell-slot management, misclassification for subclasses/domains, and occasional bugs. Overall it’s valued by DMs and players, but improvements to filters, classification, and stability would enhance usability.
Pros
  • Comprehensive, cross-source spell database with regular updates across all sourcebooks.
  • Powerful search and filtering capabilities (level, class, school, components, range, duration, cast time, sources).
  • Offline access to spell descriptions for use without internet.
  • Supports multiple characters and allows homebrew spell creation.
  • No ads and quick, reliable access to spells for DM and players.
Cons
  • Filter/search functionality is unreliable: filters may not apply, change unexpectedly, or fail to respect class-specific filters.
  • Cantrips are missing from the spell list in some views, limiting basic spell access.
  • Cannot add or manage spell slots for characters, limiting character progression tracking.
  • Subclass/domain tagging or classification is incomplete, leading to misclassification (e.g., spells that belong to a specific subclass/domain).
  • Occasional bugs and stability issues (e.g., locking into a spell page requiring rotation or restart; UI/UX could be improved).
Recent reviews
Apparently I set a minimum 60 second duration filter, and couldn't find shield, lol. This spellbook works great. Being able to use filters in the first place is huge and makes it much easier than having a bunch of tabs open in a browser. It took me a moment to figure out how to put in homebrew spells, but once I figured it out, it was easy to fill in information.
