Disable Tab Detach 2 Firefox

Disable Tab Detach 2

Disable tab tearing. Prevents unintentionally detaching a tab from the window. When the tab is detached from the window, return it to the original position.

Features & Capabilities

Disable Tab Detach 2 is a handy Chrome extension designed to prevent the accidental detachment of tabs from your browser window. If a tab is inadvertently torn away, the extension automatically returns it to its original position, helping you maintain your browsing workspace without disruption.

This extension is a fork of the original Disable Tab Detach with several improvements such as enhanced handling of pinned tabs and reverting even when multiple tabs are selected. Users can temporarily disable the add-on via a browser action button, and it supports running in private windows with permission. While a quick hack with limited testing, it aims to enhance tab management efficiency during browsing sessions.

Support and translations are encouraged via Crowdin, and donations are welcomed through multiple platforms including Kampa, Amazon, and PayPal.me. Note that Mozilla’s Firefox 74 and later versions may include similar built-in functionality, potentially making this add-on redundant for Firefox users.

User Reviews

Reviews overwhelmingly praise the add-on for reliably stopping accidental tab detaches, being simple and unobtrusive, and for its popular auto re-enable timer. Users also note it preserves intentional tab moves. There are no widespread complaints; only isolated, minor quibbles mentioned by individuals.
Pros
  • Effectively prevents accidental tab detaching/tearing — reliably stops tabs from opening new windows.
  • Works consistently and simply — multiple users say it "works perfectly" or "does the job".
  • Auto re-enable timer (temporary enable of tab dragging) — praised as a brilliant, useful feature.
  • Doesn’t interfere with intentional tab moves (e.g., moving tabs to existing windows) — preserves expected behavior.
Cons
Recent reviews
It is really trippy to see a new Firefox window briefly open with the accidentally dragged tab, after which it immediately gets moved back to the main Firefox window. Also, enabling tab dragging is temporary (I set the timer to 5 seconds) after which tab dragging is disabled again automatically. This is absolutely brilliant! So far it seems to work! Thanks Zupffwhy!

Exactly what's needed. Works perfectly. Hooray!

The only thing that bothers me is that the icon for when it is enabled is not transparent like the icon for when it is disabled. Other that it works really great.
