Tessera: Encrypted Chat

Tessera is an end-to-end encrypted messenger built for conversations, not profiles, feeds, or advertising.

NO PHONE NUMBER OR EMAIL
Create an account as a key pair on your device. There is no phone number, email address, password, social login, contact upload, advertising identifier, or behavioral analytics.

CONVERSATIONS ONLY MEMBERS CAN READ
Text, group messages, and images are encrypted on your device using Messaging Layer Security (MLS, RFC 9420). The service delivers ciphertext and does not hold the conversation keys.

ADD PEOPLE DELIBERATELY
There is no public directory, discovery feed, matchmaking, or random chat. Add someone using their account ID, or scan their QR code in person when identity matters most.

RECOVERY YOU CONTROL
Your 12-word recovery phrase restores your identity on a new device. Tessera cannot reset it for you. Message history does not follow a restored identity because conversation keys are intentionally excluded from the backup.

HONEST SECURITY BOUNDARIES
End-to-end encryption protects content, not all metadata. The service can see operational information such as IP addresses, account IDs, conversation membership, timestamps, sizes, platform, and push tokens. Tessera is not an anonymity network and does not claim to resist device compromise or global traffic analysis.

REPORT, BLOCK, AND DELETE
Report an account from a conversation and choose exactly which text excerpts to submit for human review. Block unwanted accounts; future messages from them are stopped before delivery and do not trigger push notifications. Delete your account permanently from Settings.

Tessera has not yet undergone an independent security audit. We use an open IETF standard and mature open-source components, but that is not a substitute for reviewing the finished implementation.
