Password Store

Android client compatible with pass (http://www.passwordstore.org)

Características y capacidades

Password Store is an Android client compatible with pass (http://www.passwordstore.org), aiming to provide a feature-complete mobile password management solution. It supports cloning existing pass repositories, initializing new ones, listing and categorizing passwords, decrypting password files, and adding new passwords within categories or at the root.

The app allows pulling and pushing changes to remote repositories and changing remote repository information. It requires OpenKeychain for encryption and decryption. Though the project is no longer maintained, it remains open source on GitHub, inviting contributions, especially for translations via Crowdin. Users can report issues via email for support.

Opiniones de usuarios

Password Store is a powerful, open-source Android app that syncs with the Unix 'pass' system using GnuPG and Git, appealing to advanced users valuing privacy and control. It shines in integration and configurability, with an active developer responding to feedback. However, users often report unreliable autofill, integration issues with OpenKeyChain, complexity in setup and usage, occasional bugs like freezing during Git operations, and some feature limitations. Overall, it's highly regarded by those comfortable with its learning curve and the command-line style ecosystem.
Ventajas
  • Seamless integration and interoperability with the Unix 'pass' password manager and GnuPG encryption.
  • Open source and ad-free with strong community and developer support.
  • Supports synchronization and sharing of password repositories via Git, enabling multi-device usage and collaboration.
  • The app is highly configurable and adheres to Unix philosophy, appealing to advanced users comfortable with command line tools.
  • Responsive developer team providing helpful support and updates.
Contras
  • Autofill functionality is unreliable or often fails to trigger, requiring manual copy-paste by users.
  • Issues with OpenKeyChain integration: users face errors like inability to select GPG keys, encryption/decryption problems, or missing encryption keys.
  • The app UI and setup process are complex and non-intuitive, especially for users unfamiliar with OpenKeyChain or Git repository cloning, with a steep learning curve.
  • Buggy or outdated behavior including repository cloning issues, app freezing during Git operations, and login/authentication problems, sometimes requiring killing the app.
  • Restrictions or disabling of features like clear-text repositories are seen as overly harsh by some users, limiting flexibility.
Reseñas recientes
This is a very good method to allow my Unix Pass database to be transfered across devices. However it is old and outdated so there are some bugs, including occasional failures to open. This is likely why it was removed from F-Droid. Simplistic design, likely able to be forked.

We stan pass! Sometimes the autofill seems to not trigger after the phone has rebooted until the app has been manually opened at least once. I wish the toggle between "classic" password generation and "xkpasswd" generation were shown in the "generate" modal dialog instead of just in settings - I prefer pronounceable passphrases but must switch back to the random character strings when a particular site demands it, which practically speaking means I just leave it set to "classic" all the time.
