Shetland Dictionary

Now with English - Dialect reverse search!

The goal of this project is to make it as easy as possible to find Shetland words and learn more about the dialect and its users. You don't need an internet connection to search the dictionary and the app is free to download.

As a dialect speaker, I understand how technology is encroaching on our ability to communicate using dialect, from autocorrect making a stew of "aa"s and "du"s to smart speakers and personal assistants forcing us to put on imitated voices if we want any sense from them.

I think a big part of keeping the dialect alive relies on catching up with this technology and making dialect as accessible as possible to everyone.

This app is a very small step in that direction.
