FoldRender: Git Repo Reader

FoldRender is an Android git client built around reading. Paste an HTTPS URL and git clone a repository straight onto the phone — no terminal, no root, no adb — then read what you cloned: Markdown, source code, structured data, notebooks and documents, rendered natively, without a browser in the middle.

Unfolded on a foldable, the file tree sits on the left and the document on the right. Folded, it collapses to a single reading column. Folding is a pure relayout, so the app never restarts and your place on the page never moves.

Most git clients on Android stop at the clone. This one clones and then renders what it cloned — 65 languages of syntax highlighting, PDFs, Jupyter notebooks, mermaid diagrams and LaTeX — on the screen that unfolds.

WHAT IT RENDERS

• Source code in 65 languages across 89 file extensions, syntax highlighted, with line numbers, wrap toggle and a copy button
• JSON, YAML and TOML, structured rather than dumped as raw text
• CSV as a real table
• Word and Excel documents — .docx, .doc, .xlsx and .xls — read as documents, with the same outline, search and export as everything else
• Images, PDFs, HTML and log files
• Jupyter notebooks, cells and outputs together

AN ANDROID GIT CLIENT, NOT A TERMINAL
git clone is a button here, not a command line. Paste an HTTPS repository URL and clone it straight to the device; a public repository needs no account at all. Sign in with GitHub for the private ones, then pull, read a diff, stage, commit and push — all without opening a laptop. One tap signs you in through the browser; a device code is there as a fallback that talks only to GitHub. The token is kept in app-private storage, encrypted with a key from the device keystore.

FOLDERS, NOT A FOLDER
Keep as many workspaces as you work on and switch between them from the pane header — each with its own recents and favourites, so a list of three projects never becomes a list you have to read. Create, rename and delete files and folders in place; a folder you can browse but not change is half a file browser.

UNDERSTAND A REPOSITORY YOU HAVE NOT READ
Pull up DeepWiki's generated documentation for a public GitHub repository and read it here as ordinary Markdown, with the outline, search and export you get everywhere else. Useful for a dependency you are about to trust.

BUILT NATIVE, NOT A WEBVIEW
FoldRender is Kotlin and Jetpack Compose all the way down. A 5 MB document composes only what is on screen, text selection is the system's own, and theming follows your device instead of fighting a stylesheet. That is what makes large files and constant folding feel unremarkable.

QUIET BY DESIGN
No account. No analytics. No ads. No telemetry of any kind. Your documents are read through Android's own folder picker and stay on your device — the one thing that sends them anywhere is a git push, which goes to the remote you chose, when you press push. The app reaches the network only when you ask it to: GitHub for sign-in and git, a small sign-in relay of ours for the one-tap sign-in (device-code sign-in skips it entirely), and DeepWiki only when you ask for a repository's documentation — and then it sends the repository name, never your code.

FOR THE LOCAL LOOP
An optional endpoint lets a machine on your own network push a document straight into the reading pane — handy when a build, a script or an agent produces something you want to read immediately. It is off by default, token-protected, local-network only, and only ever accepts documents.

Android 11 and above. Optimized for the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 7 and other foldables; works on any phone or tablet, using the single-column layout where there is no room to split.
