OFFICIAL SOURCES FOR ELECTION INFORMATION: Poll tapes are public records posted by local election officials at voting precincts. Official vote totals are published by each state's election authority (Secretary of State or State Board of Elections) and aggregated by the U.S. Election Assistance Commission at https://www.eac.gov. Voters can compare recordings made with Actual Vote against these official government sources.


Actual Vote lets you make video recordings of election poll tapes — the long strips of paper printed by tabulating machines that contain publicly viewable government information like precinct names and vote totals. Actual Vote does not create or alter this information; it simply helps citizens record documents that election officials have already posted in public view.

How it works:


Sign in and select your state.
Access a publicly posted poll tape at your local voting precinct.
Use the app to record a video of the poll tape from top to bottom.
Your recording is automatically uploaded, reviewed by our team, and — once approved — published on https://av.democracycounts.org.
Manage, play back, and keep track of all your recordings in the app.
