SnoopSnitch Android

SnoopSnitch

Show missing security patches. Find mobile abuse (IMSI catchers & stealth SMS).

Features & Capabilities

SnoopSnitch is an advanced Chrome extension designed to enhance your Android device's security by analyzing firmware for installed or missing security patches. It provides detailed monthly reports on vulnerability patch status (CVEs) to keep you informed about your device's protection level.

For users with compatible rooted devices featuring Qualcomm chipsets, SnoopSnitch goes a step further by actively monitoring mobile network security. It detects threats such as fake base stations (IMSI catchers), user tracking, and SS7 attacks by collecting and analyzing mobile radio data. The tool is open-source and encourages community contributions to improve Android security insights globally. Please note that active network tests require rooted devices running stock Android 4.1 or higher, with limited support for custom ROMs.

User Reviews

Reviews repeatedly cite compatibility problems on newer Android versions/devices, with the app appearing abandoned or unmaintained. Root access is often required, restricting use on unrooted devices. Stability issues and limited functionality further reduce usefulness, though some users still find it informative and credible. Overall, current devices and software versions struggle to run it, and ongoing maintenance seems uncertain.
Pros
  • Informative and capable security analysis tool (noted as informative and capable in reviews).
  • Credible endorsement from University of Michigan data scientist.
  • Easy to use (some users found it straightforward when it runs).
  • Generally positive sentiment like “Nice app” and overall usefulness when functioning.
Cons
  • Not working on many modern Android versions/devices (compatibility issues across Pixel, Galaxy/Samsung, OnePlus, tablets).
  • Unmaintained/abandoned status (no recent updates mentioned; last updates referenced as years ago).
  • Root access required for core features (limits use on unrooted devices).
  • Limited functionality (primarily checks security updates rather than broader security insights).
  • Stability issues (crashes, errors, and even patch-related bricking on certain devices).

This does not work at all on the One Plus 13 (Android 15/16). Appears to be abandoned 😔

Abandoned? It had no recent updates. And it doesn't work for the most recent Android version, at least in Pixel 7 and Pixel 9/10 devices.

It crashes my tablet. I think it is malware in disguise.
