Bib Weiden

This free Android app allows convenient access via smartphone or tablet to the online catalog (OPAC) and the member accounts of the Weiden OPf Regional Library.

!!! IMPORTANT INFORMATION: Since August 2024, the URL of the OPAC website has changed, so the app could not process the data.
The problem is fixed with the new version 2.1.11.

MOTIVATION

As "hard-working" borrowers at the Weiden Regional Library, we always found it very tedious to access the OPAC website almost every day, enter the user data and, after several clicks, check which media we had to return in order not to have to pay late fees.
Families with multiple accounts in particular will certainly agree with me here.

The desire for an app that could take care of this annoying routine work became ever stronger. Based on an open source solution and a lot of effort for adjustments, the wish became reality.
In order to support the regional library, we have decided after consultation to make the Bib App accessible to all users and to offer it free of charge here in the Play Store.

2022: The library's OPAC software was replaced in May 2022, so the Bib Weiden app V1 no longer works! Please update the Bib app.

2024: Adapted for Android up to version 14


App features:
- Separate display of borrowed, ready-to-collect and pre-ordered media
- Management of multiple accounts possible
- Renewal of borrowed media (not yet working again)
- Pre-ordering media (not working again yet))
- Automatic notification of media that needs to be submitted (see settings; no guarantee)
- Search the regional library's online catalog
- Watch list for media
- Display outstanding fees (no guarantee)
- Add widget (!!!) to the home screen
(Number in "traffic light" to the right of the symbol in the widget: red: hand in today; orange: hand in soon; green: number of all remaining loans; number in the circle to the left of the symbol: media to be picked up)

Data protection/data transfer:
All communication takes place directly via the Internet between your smartphone and the regional library servers. Communication with the server is encrypted and transmitted via HTTPS.

Your library ID number and password are only stored on your device (in the app). Anonymous use of the app (i.e. without ID number and password) is possible, but this results in functional restrictions.

FAQs:
Q: Widget: Text below the app icon does not automatically change every hour (= when it was last updated). Why?
A: Problem with communication between widget and app. Solution: Delete widget and add new one.
Also: After updating the app, the widget should also be added so that the time information is updated automatically.
