NINA - Staging

The warning app NINA (emergency information and news app) warns you in Germany about dangers, on request also for your current location. The app is provided by the Federal Office for Civil Protection and Disaster Assistance (BBK).

The technical starting point for NINA is the federal modular warning system (MoWaS). This is operated by the BBK for nationwide warnings of civil defense. Since 2013, all situation centers in the federal states and many already-connected control centers of cities and municipalities can use the warning system (http://www.bbk.bund.de/DE/NINA/Warnung/Warnung.html).

Note: Warning messages about local events are not available everywhere. Please inform your county or city about the possibilities of warning the population there.

With NINA you get:

• Civil protection warning messages with recommendations for action
• Weather warnings of the DWD (Germany-wide for all county and cities)
• flood information (nationwide at federal state level)
• General emergency tips to help protect yourself and others from potential hazards.

NINA allows you to select locations for which you want to receive alerts. These are displayed in the "My Places" overview. In the settings menu, you can specify the alert level at which you should be notified by push notification. Optionally, you can also receive alerts for your current location. No location data is stored on our servers. Please note: In order to display location-related warnings correctly, NINA must be able to determine your location. Bad reception may lead to incorrect displays.

The danger area of ​​a warning message can be displayed in the map view. The flood information is currently only published at federal state level. The card will display all warning messages even if you have not selected the location.

The emergency tips contain recommendations on topics such as floods, storms, power failures, fires and special danger situations. Find out how to prepare for such events. Notes about permissions in the app:

Read and change SD card contents: The app has an offline mode to allow access to the emergency tips and already existing warnings and information even in the case of a lack of internet connection (after the first download). To do this, it is necessary to create the offline content in the file system. The app does not read any more data from your device.

Your own location: Alerts for your current location are only possible when using GPS, Wi-Fi, and other geolocation services. If you disable these services on your device, you will not be able to receive location-based alerts.
