Offline and online maps, GPS, tracking, bearings, areas, POI & geodata
ArxSilex MapTools is an Android tool for outdoor maps, GPS/GNSS, and geodata. Device-dependent features include compass, satellite status, BLE groups, Remote ID, and AR/LiveView.
Maps, Services & Offline Operation
Use Mapsforge, MBTiles, GeoPackage, raster overlays, POI databases, and your own HTTPS sources for XYZ, OSGeo TMS, WMS, or raster WMTS as base maps and overlays. Capabilities and local XML support setup and testing. WMS/WMTS services can be updated or repaired; supported CRSs are reprojected locally.
OGC API Features and WFS provide read-only object layers. GetFeatureInfo and InfoTap combine map and service information; reports can be copied, shared, or saved as TXT/PDF.
Global Offline Mode blocks all internet access initiated by MapTools, including custom services, online routing, and external links. Google/OSM blocks leave your own WMS, WMTS, XYZ, TMS, OGC, and WFS services available. Radio Silence stops the app's own Wi-Fi/BLE functions, Remote ID, and group modes. Local features remain available.
External data is not included. Costs, registration, licensing, attribution, and caching are determined by the provider; map styles are not included with the app.
GPS, Objects, Navigation & Terrain
Place markers by map tap or crosshair in your preferred coordinate format; combine measurements for greater precision. POI full-text search, the object browser, filters, and the alarm filter help manage your data.
Routes can be extended at either end, recalculated in sections, and supplemented with points. Follow or monitor routes and start circular routes at any point. Tracking records distance, times, pauses, segments, statistics, GPS accuracy, and GNSS/RTK values. Four profiles, automatic mode, and fixed point intervals control recording. Stopping requires confirmation; tracks are restored after the app process ends.
Bearing and cross-bearing tools provide direction, distance, intersection, quality, and an accuracy range. Search grids, coverage strips, and area tools support planning and documentation. HGT, DEM GeoTIFF, ASC, and DTED provide elevation, profiles, hillshade, contour lines, and viewsheds.
Object Alarms & Background Location
While the app is visible, object alarms monitor markers, circles, areas, and routes with configurable signaling, snooze, and stop controls. Enabled marker and circle alarms may use precise location while the app is closed. Google Play services monitor the geofence on the device. MapTools does not send location to its own servers, use it for advertising or usage analytics, or create an alarm location history.
Import, Export & Backup
Import GPX, KML/KMZ, GeoJSON, ArcGIS/Esri JSON, CSV/TSV/TXT, Shapefile ZIP, Mapsforge, MBTiles, GeoPackage, GeoTIFF, and elevation data. GeoJSON/ArcGIS JSON can be used as vector layers; known CRSs are converted to WGS84 and unsupported ones are rejected.
A map ZIP can contain one MAP, MBTiles, or GeoPackage map; updates retain slots and settings. Database-backed projects with paging handle large datasets. Storage checks also cover Android-provided SD card and USB destinations.
Export .asmaps, GPX, KML/KMZ, GeoJSON, CSV, QR codes, and reports. .asmaps.bak files and compressed QR codes can optionally be password protected. Credentials are stored encrypted; passwords, API keys, and tokens are not included in backups.
Privacy, Control & Pro
Data remains local until you exchange it or use an online feature. MapTools does not require its own user account, display ads, or use analytics or advertising tracking services. It does not create usage profiles. Some features or higher limits require a one-time Pro unlock through Google Play.
Important Information
Accuracy and availability depend on the device, sensors, reception, Android, permissions, and data source. MapTools is not a substitute for official maps, incident command, aviation clearances, safety procedures, or professional navigation in critical situations.
