User reviews
Users find the Color Contrast Analyzer a useful and relevant tool for assessing color contrast based on accessibility standards. However, multiple reviewers report crashes, slow performance, and compatibility issues with modern Chrome versions and devices like Retina displays. The extension appears unmaintained, causing errors and bugs, and some users express concerns about permissions and lacking documentation. Overall, the tool is valued but suffers from stability and update problems that limit its effectiveness.
Pros
- Useful for quickly checking color contrast on webpages, especially for specific page regions.
- Provides the ability to select WCAG levels for contrast measurement.
- Good idea and helpful tool for web accessibility.
- Simple and relevant addition to other accessibility tools.
Cons
- Extension frequently crashes, especially when scanning a whole page or on certain devices like Retina displays.
- Not updated for a long time; lacks compatibility with latest Chrome versions and standards.
- Causes console errors such as 'Unchecked runtime.lastError: The message port closed before a response was received.'
- Broken or missing help documentation and links, complicated to use for some users.
- Requires permissions that raise privacy concerns, such as reading browser history, without clear justification.

Great plugin but needs development as it is no longer supported by Chrome. Happy to provide UI / UX if any developers wish to take this up in Github.

Wanted to add a newer review since it seems it wasn't working properly in the past. Right now it's working great on the latest Chrome/Chromium. Super useful to quickly check contrast on a page where normal contast analyzers may not be sufficient.
