Sauersack

The "Sauersack" mobile application contains tips for archaeological trips around the defunct Sudeten village of Rolava (German Sauersack) in the western part of the Ore Mountains. The application will take you through the remains of mining activities from the 14th to the 20th century, as well as through very young archeological sites, which are associated with the dark heritage of the 20th century. Monuments can be visited alone or as part of themed walks.

You can choose places to visit either according to the location or according to a topic close to you. The individual archeological monuments are grouped into walks, which you will see on the introductory map screen. You can also choose walks in the menu below the map. After clicking on the selected walk, you will see additional information about the walk and its individual points of interest, for which you can read more information and view the multimedia gallery. It is also possible to start navigation to individual points.

The application is free and without ads. The content of the application will be continuously updated as the knowledge of the region deepens. In the future, the application will be supplemented by a virtual reconstruction of the Sauersack mine treatment plant, which represents a regional landmark and a completely unique technical monument.

The application was prepared for you by archaeologists of the Institute of Archeology of the Academy of Sciences of the Czech Republic in Prague in cooperation with the National Monuments Institute and regional researchers and enthusiasts. The content creation was funded from the AV21 Strategy "Resilient Society for the 21st Century" research program and from the institutional support of the Ministry of Culture for the long-term conceptual development of the research organization (IP DKRVO), research area "Industrial Heritage."
