In past centuries, people living in the landscape below Ralsko used all the available wealth of the land to survive. The local landscape has always been relatively poor in agricultural yields, the sandy soil is not that fertile. However, prospectors found rocks rich in iron here. In addition, there were forests suitable for the production of brown coal and rivers and ponds that could power mills and crushers. Since the 16th century, there have been continuous efforts to mine and process iron ore. Many traces of these activities have been left in the landscape. They may not be obvious at first glance, but those who know how to look will discover them. And so they will discover that the landscape, which is today a place of peace and relaxation, was a very lively enterprise more than two hundred years ago.
