It's built by the same team behind WTF Just Happened Today, and it pulls political news headlines directly to your new tab page. The fact that it has no ratings and very few downloads tells me it's either test software, a passion project, or something the developer stepped away from (the version literally says "resigned" in it) .
You're right that it's a necessary distraction — it keeps you informed without you having to actively go hunt for news. And at 16 users, you're basically an early adopter (or beta tester) 👍
